Chris & His Service Dog Draco

Chris received assistance through our service dog department. He contacted many different veteran/service dog organizations before finally contacting us. After no responses from those organizations, he was accepted through our application process and was connected with Pawsitively Unleashed in central Wisconsin. Service dog training will last for approximately a year and a half.
Chris was an active duty line medic in the Army Airborne from 2005-2009 with the 1-502, 101 AA. He did two OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) deployments; one in 2005-2006 and another in 2007-2008. After his active duty, he served in the National Guard from 2009-2010. He currently suffers from PTSD and spinal injuries due to his military service, which is why he is taking the journey of training his personal canine to become his service dog.
He currently resides in Wisconsin with his wife Jennifer, their two children, and their dog Draco. He is a two-year-old Rottweiler that is full of enormous potential that will be fulfilled through his service dog training. Draco will assist Chris with mobility issues and his PTSD.
Chris likes to spend his time riding motorcycles, shooting guns, and doing improvements on his home.
The Wounded Veterans Foundation is honored to support veterans like Chris, in order to show our appreciation for everything they have sacrificed for us. These service dogs can change a veteran’s life by preventing suicides, decreasing the need for certain medications, and giving them a better day-to-day quality of life.

Nick & His Service Dog Zoey

Nick served six years in the Army Reserves and Indiana National Guard where he participated in numerous activations including many around the United States for disaster relief. One activation was to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. After leaving the Army, he joined the Navy Reserves for four years. He constantly stayed active with back to back orders to be sent to places like Afghanistan and Kuwait. He also had orders to be sent to Newport, RI and Norfolk, VA. where he was in support of the International Seapower Symposium and established relationships with the crew of the USS Cole. While out on orders to the Cole for INSURV, he volunteered for what would be his last deployment to the Mediterranean on the USS Cole providing protection for Israel.
Nick has a passion for veterans with PTSD. After almost succumbing to it in 2015, he finally reached out for help. This led him to the Wounded Veterans Foundation and he began the process of getting a service dog. He has found a pit bull mix that was rescued from the Muncie Animal Shelter. Her name is Zoey and she is just under a year old. Working with us we contacting K9’s 4 Dogtags in Beech Grove, IN, it was determined that she was the perfect fit for Nick. She will be going through many months of training obtaining the abilities to assist him.
He currently lives and works in Indiana with his wife Amy where he enjoys making up for lost time by spending time with family, fishing, and making pallet projects.
